Client: St Michael’s Preparatory School
Project type: Construction of new sports pavilion, car park, workshop and all-weather pitch
Key Roles: Project Manager, Contract Administrator
Sectors: Sports & Education
Location: St Saviour, Jersey

Description:

This is a multi-phase project to improve the facilities for one of the Island’s most prestigious private schools. The first phases of the project required us to manage delivery of extensive new parking facilities, workshop and ancillary buildings at the same time as creating a new pavilion that served as the changing facilities and base for the school’s external sports.

The pavilion (pictured above) was completed in May 2021. Rowney Sharman is now Project Managing the delivery of a new artificial hockey pitch adjacent to the pavilion and completing ancillary works over the summer holiday period.

Rowney Sharman joined the project following appointment of the design team, to provide the client with capacity and capability that was beyond the resources of the internal team whilst delivering their ‘day job’. We undertook the roles of Project Manager and Contract Administrator, reporting to the school Bursar, Headmaster and Board of Governors representatives.  We coordinated communication between the school and contractor, took responsibility for monitoring onsite works, scheduling and chairing of progress meetings, monitoring of costs and reporting back on client variations and client direct orders.

The impact of COVID working restrictions, coupled with inclement weather conditions, required us to work closely with the client and contractor to reprogram the works to ensure high priority items were delivered early, to meet operational and health and safety requirements.

We continue to advise the client on the final accounts process for the initial phases of work and are progressing the ongoing external works to deliver the all-weather pitch, external lighting and landscaping works to enable these facilities to be used and enjoyed by pupils returning for the autumn term.
